Day 2! – Central Park, Strawberry Fields, Sephora, KINOKUNIYA(!!!) and getting lost at Macy’s

December 30, 2008

(This post will be updated with pics later on. I am currently too sleepy to wait for them to upload now)

Time is now 1:29A.M.

My aunt woke me up this morning at 10 am. XDDD CLEARLY I was exhausted from all that waiting on the plane XDDDD. Anyhooo, we made our way out of the apartment by around 11am and walked a few blocks down 61st St. to have breakfast at Dunkin Donuts of all places. Then we kept walking down to 71st to find the Frick Museum only to find that it was closed on Monday’s. :| Then we were going to head down to the Met only to be informed by another disappointed tourist that that was ALSO closed on Mondays. So we skipped the whole museum idea and headed straight for Central Park which was thankfully right across the road from the Frick building. Central Park is HUGE so as much as I wanted to go, I wasn’t able to go and take pictures of the gazebo where Aiba and Maia met in my fic. T_T Anyhoo we made our way through Central Park, taking kajillions of photos as we went until we made it Strawberry Fields, the part of the park dedicated to the legendary John Lennon. I wanted to take a pic of myself (like Makino XP) but there was dozens of people standing there and littering the place while ignoring the QUIET SPACE sign. DDDD:

Then from Central Park we hopped onto a bus and went on down to Columbus Circle where we ate lunch and did a bit of shopping.

And then, because I had been paying attention to the map I’d been given, I quite literally DRAGGED my aunt and uncle down Central Park South and then down the Avenue of the Americas where I knew Kinokuniya was. XDDDDD
Along the way we were besieged by giant Christmas decorations, hordes of crowds, hundreds of irate taxi drivers and random muppet characters idling for money.

Giant Christmas Balls

More gigantic Christmas balls

Gigantic Christmas Lights

Elmo!

Shrek??

Bugs bunny?!

Winnie the pooh!

Cookie!

And then just when I thought I had to walk a few more blocks to find it, a simple sign suddenly materialized before my very eyes and caused a greater excitement than what it’s non-descript appearance led me to imagine: KINOKUNIYA.
I hopped into the store and found it teeming with people, and little hafu children running around squealing in Japanese and then I found a magazine rack in a corner and was severely disappointed to see that it was only filled with cosplay and fashion magazines (although the ageha mags tickled me pink XDDDD) and so I aimlessly wandered around purposely hoping that something would catch my eye for me to purchase. And then I passed by a bookshelf and LO AND BEHOLD. WAS A WALLFUL OF SHELVES DEDICATED TO IDOL MAGS.
A circle of mags near the floor held the key to my dreams…AROUND SIX DIFFERENT MAGAZINES WITH ARASHI ADORNING THEIR COVERS. Propping the magazines up next to them, neatly shelved were copies of ARASHI IS ALIVE and another paparazzi book. but ZOMGGGGGG I QUITE LITERALLY AKSDJKASJCDK;AJSDFHK;ASJDNF;AKSDJGFH AT THAT POINT. And just when I was about to buy a GQ Japan magazine because it had MatsuJun on the cover as one of their Men of the Year and it was the only Arashi related thing I could find!!!!!!!!! I ended up blowing USD55.00 today. :-< On two Potato mags and Arashi is Alive! XDDDDDD One of the Potato mags was an Arashi cover and the other one was a HeiSei cover which I bought for my cousin in Australia who luffs them. Anyhoo, I wanted to look around more especially since there was a cd section downstairs but I was a bit pressed for time and the line was insanely long so I paid and said “Arigatou.” to the white dude at the counter. Emphasis on the “white”, because he replied with “Arigatou gozaimashita!^_^ Hai~ douzo!*beckons to next customer to come over” XDDDDDD (Am I the only one disconcerted by non-Asians speaking Japanese outside of Japan ??? XDDD)

So! After Kinokuniya, I was all set to end my day with dinner and flailing but of course I knew that that was not what I was destined to do this evening. We ended up at Macy’s where we shopped and shopped for like four hours and I found NOTHING that I wanted to buy eeven though my aunt was clearly getting impatient with me because she REALLY wanted me to get new clothes.XDDD So she was basically pulling things off the shelf and telling me to try them on XDDDDD most of which I didn’t necessarily like. XDDDD And then of course, I came out of the fittimg rooms and she was nowhere to be found. I tried calling her phone only to realize that I was out of prepaid and I could not call her nor could she contact me. I walked around the floor two or three times and when all was lost, I walked up to a lady and asked her to give me change for a dollar bill so I could use a payphone. Then I called her and she shouted at me and then we met up and she shouted at me some more (even though it wasn’t really my fault XDDDD) but it was okay, she was just really upset and afraid that something had happened to me. She actually said that she was scared that I might’ve been kidnapped. PUH-LEASE. As if I’m small enough to be whisked away by a random stranger in a mall! XDDDDDD And thus my day ended with dinner after shopping at Macy’s (I ended up buying a cute new bag), a trip home on the subway and some late night shopping for tomorrow’s breakfast food at the local grocery store.
The time is now 1:54am. I apologize for my rambly and sometimes incoherent tales but I hope you enjoy them anyway. Til tomorrow then? In the meantime, I will keep myself awake with this lovely pile of purchases:

FLAILING FTW!!!

Ja ne! *waves*

  3. oh noooooooooo that wasn’t meeee. I wish it was!!! But I was actually at the apartment all snug and cozy and watching CSI until five minutes before the countdown XDDDDDD We were gonna go to Times Square but when we dropped by at around 11am, there were already dozens of people sitting on the curb waiting!!! And to be there, you have to go through a police checkpoint and you’re not allowed to bring a bag. Also once you have a spot you can’t leave it cause you won’t be able to go back. So we decided that we didn’t want to wait in the cold for twelve hours XDDDD
